Brakes

our next gig will be

BRAKES

with Gindrinker

Monday 2nd February 2009

Tommy's Bar, Howard Gardens School of Art, UWIC

£8.50, 7:30pm

Brakes are a band who seem to be having a good time...all the time. And this sense of fun always translates into their recorded music and their legendary live shows. Now, the band bring their raucous entertainment and songs from their new album to the cosy confines of Tommy's Bar in Cardiff.

Despite their complete disinterest in taking things too seriously (remember, this is a band who recorded a five-second long song called Cheney, whose lyrics went “Cheney, Cheney, Cheney, stop being such a d*ck”), Brakes have won accolades and awards wherever they have gone.

Their debut album, Give Blood, was voted Rough Trade record shop's no.1 album of 2005, got a 5* review in The Observer and gained them support slots with Belle And Sebastian and Editors as well as several headline tours of their own. Their second album, Beatific Visions, won Colin Murray's best album of 2006 and a tour support slot with The Killers. After three years on Rough Trade, the band are newly signed to esteemed indie, Fat Cat and are about to release their 3rd album, Touchdown. With typical enthusiasm and perhaps a dose of humour, the band describe the album as “our best yet...the zenith of civilisation, it will make your jaw drop further than the Dow Jones in 2008”.
